We also ran part of the 5k course to experience the hills in 5th Ave. Many runners said it’s not as hard as they thought when running with a group. DESCRIPTION:Our 3rd spring 5K training session took place at Van Saun Park around the pond. We got a break from the rain in the morning. Many walk-run members tried 4R-1W today for 7 times to finish the 5k distance. The pace was well received and many runners feel the progress already after just 3 weeks of training.

SUMMARY:Spring 5K Training - Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Our first cross training yoga class for the 5k group took place at the River Edge library.  While we have some experienced yogis\, it was the first yoga class for many runner. Sun salutation\,  chaturanga and warrior 1\, 2 were made easy thanks to our light-hearted yoga instructor Jojo Lee. Meticulous and caring\, JoJo paid close attention to individuals and made sure that everyone was had a good alignment. 90 minutes introduction session passed so fast and runners couldn’t wait to get back to learn more!

SUMMARY:Spring 5K Training Week 2 - Saturday Group Run
DESCRIPTION:We combined our weekly regular group run with a 5K training at the Saddle River County Park this morning. Many beginner runners worried about the cold temperature but were pleasantly surprised it wasn’t as bad as they thought.  Most of the runners were able to completed the 5k distance with a slower pace or 3 minutes run / 1 minute walk interval. Chris did a great job leading the run-walk group.

DESCRIPTION:Our Spring 5K training officially started this week as we ran our first 5K training group run together on Saturday afternoon.  We will meet regularly once a week in the Saturday afternoon in Van Saun Park.  5K is friendly distance for both adults and kids so it can be a good family activity. Many beginners choose to use run and walk method so we will focus mostly on this group of runners through out the journal. To implement this method\, we need to have a good tool to help us with the interval timing. We recommend RunKeeper for this purpose since it has a very good interval feature and has the ability to track the running route at the same time.  See below how to setup interval workout in Runkeeper.

SUMMARY:Year of the Dog Run
DESCRIPTION:Our second “Year of the Dog Run” is designed for advanced runners. The map was creatively  drawn by Xingyang while the route was planned by Renny.  Five fierce ladies started near River Dell Middle School and traversed through the Oradell neighborhood before returning to River Edge. A perfect cute 8 mile dog was formed on our GPS app and we highlighted it with a “2018” route. Running in circles in a parking lot to create the eye was the most fun part and we can’t wait to create a route for the year of the Pig next year! \n

SUMMARY:Chinese New Year Run
DESCRIPTION:It’s January 2nd on the lunar calendar\, a day which the Chinese tradition calls for married women to return and visit their parents’ home.  We gathered this morning to celebrate this day in our own way. Many runners dressed in red and Sam Liu used the vintage camera to take few classic shots for us (which turned the clock back to our youth).  Xinyan planned a Year of Dog route and even practiced the routes few times the day before to ensure that the shape of the route would map out as planned. Many runners followed her lead and a route resembling a small cute dog with the number 2018 was born in Saddle River Park. DESCRIPTION:Many of us met up on the morning of 12/30 to wrap up the final group running activity in 2017 with this special event.  Our usual group convened at the usual time\, location but under an extraordinarily unusual weather condition (below 20F and some flurries) and a special distance goal of 20.18K (or just above 20K or 12M).  11 runner braved the inclement weather\, achieved the extraordinary and celebrated the upcoming new year. We ran arm-in-arm like brothers and sisters.  2017 was a special year because all the connections that we have formed. Looking forward to having another exciting year of running. Many people brought in their own home-made dishes to share with friends. Few Taiwanese delicacies were specially popular thanks to Tony spent the whole afternoon to prepare. DESCRIPTION:This is a group run that was supposed to canceled but few of us insisted to come out to test out how it feel to run on the path of snow covering Saddle River Park. We ran a full 12 mile course long run with help of some ice skating skill ((not completely without fall). Its also CJ’s first time conquer this full course and to take a photo with the “mysterious” 6 mile sign as a must. It was a great fun to run on top of snow but definitely not recommend for everyone to try! \nEvent photos

SUMMARY:Flying Fox Runner's Night
DESCRIPTION:It’s the biggest event for the Flying Fox Runners in the end of the year. We got together in Yaya noodles to meet many Flying Fox marathon runners around New Jersey and Pennsylvania area. It’s a great opportunity to learn from each other and celebrate together for all the achievements we’ve accomplished this year. Runner’s story were shared through power point presentation and each team captain got a chance to introduce their team to the big audience. The food was so delicious and people couldn’t stop laughing from many funny marathon stories especial our own Rachel’s. Raffle drawing in the end for 2018 New York City 2 Marathon entries was the climax of the event.   Our lucky Joanna got it again! SUMMARY:Palisades State Park Hills Run
DESCRIPTION:It had been a while since we ran together as a group on this scenic route along the Hudson Valley.  Was it July when we were here last? Rolling hills were certainly very challenging and brutal for both our body and soul. However\, we couldn’t resist the calling of such beauty\, and the pride of conquering this route. \nHere we were here again on the morning of December 2nd.  Summer tanks and shorts were replaced by cold season outfits on this early winter day.  Luckily\, it was a mild sunny day and everyone was so cheerful when we assembled at the Ross Dock picnic area. There were some new and old faces\, experienced and novice runners.  Everyone arrived with a smile and we couldn’t wait to run.
